Samsung Galaxy S II - A tough Competitor of iPhone?

Samsung Galaxy S II is an Android based smart phone that was unveiled by Samsung on 13 Febubrary 2011 at the Mobile World Congress.Online sources claim that it is the world's thinnest smart phone with dual core and more than 1 GHz  processor.This smart phone has proved to be a tough competitor for iPhone by Apple Inc.I think,this phone is indeed equipped with many such features and functions which are superior to those of iPhone4 by Apple Inc.In many countries around the globe these two companies i.e Samsung and Apple Inc., are involved in legal battle over patent rights and are giving tough competition to each other for dominance in global market of smart phones.Salient features,specifications and functions of Samsung Galaxy S II are discussed below:

• Phyical Dimensions : It is 125.3mm long,66.1mm wide and 8.49mm thick.While iPhone4 is 115.2mm long,58.6mm wide and 9.3mm thick.So it is about 10% thinner, 9% longer and 13% wider as compared with iPhone4.It weighs 116gm as compared with iPhone4 it is about 20% lighter which weighs 137gm.
• Application Processor: The Samsung Galaxy S II is equipped with XMM Dual-Core 6260 1.2GHz Application Processor,while iPhone4 is equipped with Apple A4 1GHz Application Processor.So Samsung  Galaxy S II is equipped with a processor which has much more processing power and about 20% higher processing frequency than that of iPhone4's Processor.
• Display : It is equipped with 4.3" (diagonal) WVGA Super AMOLED Display Screen,while iPhone4 is equipped with 3.5" (diagonal) widescreen LCD Screen.OLED Screen that Samsung Galaxy S II is equipped with is usually brighter and more vivid.However,unlike Samsung Galaxy S II which is equipped with a screen of 800x480 pixel resolution at 218ppi,iPhone4 is equipped with a screen of 960x640 pixel resolution at 326 ppi.So iPhone4 has about 60% higher resolution than that of Samsung Galaxy S II,thus iPhone4 gives 50% crisper display of text,images and video as compared with Samsung Galaxy S II.
• Memory: It is equipped with16GB/32GB memory for data storage.In addition to this it supports up to 32GB of microSD Car.iPhone4 is also equipped with 16GB or 32GB of flash memory.
• Network: It supports HSPA+21Mbps/HSUPA 5.76Mbps,EDGE GPRS Class 12,Quad Band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and Quad Band UMTS 850/900/1900/2100.Unlike Samsung Galaxy S II,the iPhone 4 has two versions i.e.,GSM Model and CDMA Model.GSM Model of iPhone 4 is provides the same network support and connectivity as does Samsung Galaxy S II,while CDMA Model of iPhone supports CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (900,1800 MHz).iPhone4 seems to have better network support as compared with Samsung Galaxy S II.
• Camera : It is equipped with two cameras one on the back 8MP AF camera with LED Flash and the other one is 2MP camera on the front.It is equipped with significantly higher resolution camera  as compared with iPhone4,which is equipped with 5MP camera,this is why it can take photos with 60% more details for larger prints.
• Connectors: It is equipped with two connectors,one for microUSB and the other 3.5mm Ear Jack. While iPhone4 lacks conenctor for microUSB,it has a dock cable connector to USB Cable.
• Battery: It is equipped with 1650mAh Li-ion battery and provides 18.3 hours of talk time as compared with the iPhone4 which provides 14 hours of talk time.So Samsung Glaaxy S II provides about 30% more talk time on a single charge as compared with iPhone4.
• Operating System (OS): It has Andriod version 2.3 as its OS.While iPhone4 has iOS4 as its OS.
• Message: It supports SMS/MMS (OMA v1.2),Email (POP3/IMAP/SMTP/,SSL/TLS) and Exchange ActiveSync Email.So does iPhoe4.
• Audio File Formats: It supports many audio file formats like MP3,OGG,AAc,AAC+,eAAC+,AMR-NB,AMR-WB,WMA,WAV,MID,AC3,IMY,FLAC and XMF.So doe iPhoe4.
• Video File Formats: It supports many video file formats like MPEG4,H.264,H.263,WMV,DivX,Xvid,VC-1 recording and play back 1080p@30fps.So unlike iPhone4 which supports video recording and playback only at 720p@30fps.So Samsung Galaxy S II can shoot videos of much higher resolution as compared with iPhone4.
• Image File Formats: It supports many image file formats like JPEG,PNG,GIF,BMP,WBMP and AGIF.So does iPhone4.
• GPS: The Samsung Galaxy S II,like iPhone4,is equipped with Assisted-GPS (A-GPS).
• Convergence : It features easy set-up(WPS PIN/PBC,Wi-Fi Direct),allshare(DLNA1.5),Samsung kies 2.0 and Samsung Kies air.
• Hubs : It serves as four hubs i.e.,Social Hub,Reader Hub,Music Hub and Game Hub.
• RAM : It is equipped with 1024 MB RAM so it has very fast response time and it is very good at multi-tasking.iPhone4 has 512MB RAM,which is 50% less than that of Samsung Galaxy S II.
• Data Inputs : It supports multiple data inputs like Multi-touch Screen,Headset Controls,Proximity and Ambient Light Sensors,three-axis Gyroscope,Magnetometer,Accelerometer,A-GPS and Stereo FM Radio.

Some salient features of Samsung Galaxy S II have been discussed in this article and some features of Samsung Galaxy S II have also been compared with iPhone4.Detailed comparison of iPhone4 with Samsung  Galaxy S II is beyond the scope of this article.The Samsung Galaxy SII is equipped with so many sophisticated features and cutting-edge technology that it is simply a masterpiece of mobile technology.No doubt iPhone4 is itself a fabulous mobile phone,but based on the tough completion that Samsung Glaxy S II is posing to iPhone4 around the globe and a comparison of features of these two mobile phones,it would not be unfair to say that Samsung Galaxy S II is in many ways superior to iPhone4.
