Important Pyschological Fact regading erasing someting out of your memory

Sometimes our mind is haunted by some bad thoughts or feelings that pinch us and which we want to forget and keep from coming to our mind.In this effort to forget such bitter feelings we consciously try not to think about such bitter thoughts and feelings.This conscious mental effort creates opposite effect of what we wish to do.This makes things worse.
 

By this approach,instead of being washed out of our memory such thoughts become more strongly ingrained in our mind.Such thoughts,cravings or emotions which are consciously being suppressed by us fight back and become even stronger.Psychologists suggest that better approach is to accept these feelings and find other distractions to keep such thoughts and feelings coming to our mind.
